Mind Reader

A fun game to tune in students to a new topic!

Game Type: Tuning In

Recommended Ages: 6+

Number Of Players: 2 players

Equipment Required: Nil

Where To Play: Indoor

Duration: 5-10 minutes

How To Play

Step One: Choose two students to stand up.

Step Two: On the count of three, each students says one word related to the topic of study. For example, if studying Mini Beasts, student one might say ‘ant’ and student two might say ‘lady bug’.

Step Three: Each student now thinks of something that both ants and lady bugs have in common. For example, on the count of three student one might say ‘legs’ and student two might say ‘small’.

Step Four: Mind Reader continues until both students say the same word. For example, on the count of three both students both say ‘six’ as in both ants and lady bugs have six legs. At this point the game ends and you may choose another two students to play or commence your whole group lesson.

Variations

Whole Group: The whole group splits up into pairs and play Mind Reader independently. Ask students to record their initial words and their final word and compare as a group.

No Repeats: In Mind Reader you may repeat words that have already been said. In the No Repeats variation, students may not repeat words that have already been said. No Repeats is best suited to older students.

Plant The Seed: The teacher chooses the first two words and then students play on. Plant The Seed is best when the teacher wishes to direct the tuning in stage to a particular set of ideas.
