How Did That Happen?

A mega version of Chinese Whispers everyone will just love!

Game Type: Study Break

Recommended Ages: 6 and up

Number Of Players: Whole class

Equipment Required: Nil

Where To Play: Indoors or outdoors

Duration: 10 minutes

Objective

To pass a word around a group and watch it evolve into something new, weird and wonderful.

Set Up

Your students sit in a circle.

How To Play

Step One: Choose one person to begin. This person must think of a word, for example, ‘pencil’.

Step Two: That person whispers the word to the person on their right.

Step Three: This person must then whisper a new word associated with that word to the person on their right. For example, ‘pen’ is similar to ‘pencil’.

Stage Four: Play continues around the circle at least three times and each time someone changes the word to something associated.

Stage Five: When you’ve completed at least three rounds, the last person says the current word out loud. You’ll all be left wondering, “How did that happen?”
